Republican, yes I am a Republican. Although I voted for Obama in 2008, I was ready for change and here we are in 2011 and no change has been made, it has gotten worse. I grew up in San Francisco and grew up with a family who were Republicans. I remember watching TV and there was Ronald Reagan or George Bush Sr. While I was in high school we had Clinton in the President's seat. The only thing I remember from the Clinton Administration was Monica Lewinsky, isn't that sad? I know the man has done great things but that is all I remember and "I didn't inhale".
My earliest memories of Government and my involvement with Government was trying to become Secretary in my 5th grade class. It brings me back to the posters, fliers, labels and pins I made. It was more of a popularity contest versus what changes we promised to make. That was my very first taste of government. In high school a requirement junior year was to take a government course. I was driving now and we learned about census and our right to vote. I vaguely remember taking a test to see what party I believed in. We watched and read articles about Barbara Boxer and Willie Brown. I took it as a required class and an easy A.
I was approached at 19 about ballots, voting and registering to vote. I voted to George W. Bush in 2000. I was a Republican and that's where my beliefs were lying. The 8 months that followed after he was elected changed everyone's lives 9/11. We were more concerned in protecting our country and neglected other important factors in the US. After he served his two terms I was more into adulthood. I listened to both parties, Democrat and Republican and I must say I believed in CHANGE and I believed in he words Obama spoke. I was laid off from a great job which allowed me to pay for school out of pocket. Times were changing and the economic down turn was very depressing. I wished for changed just like millions of people and voted and elected Obama to the White House.
We are now in 2011 and the economy is even worse than before. They are comparing our current situation to the Great Depression. Was I wrong to believe in change? I look forward to learn more in this class. I am ready to understand more about government and government thinking. This course is required but this will make me more knowledgeable to see the process of government and elections are coming up and I want to better myself for this next election.
